Brussels Briefing - Mental health: Key findings and emerging risks
As part of its #BrusselsBriefings series, Eurofound hosted an off-the-record session dedicated to its latest research on mental health. The briefing took place on Tuesday 9 December 2025 from 10:00 to 12:00 CET.

Event background
Eurofound expert Hans Dubois presented recent findings drawing comparative data, exploring how crises such as the Great Recession and COVID-19 have shaped mental-health outcomes, how different risk groups are evolving, and why social and economic conditions remain central drivers of poor mental health.
The briefing also addressed worrying recent trends, including a stalling of the decline in suicide deaths and recent increases especially among youngest and oldest age groups, and the increasing or continued strain on Europe’s mental-health systems regardless of increased capacity. Participants could gain insights into what works, where gaps persist, and how policy can strengthen prevention, inclusion and access to trustworthy, person-centred support.
This off-the-record event gave stakeholders an opportunity to engage directly with Eurofound’s expert on the most recent data and analysis. After the opening and a short presentation, the schedule included a Q&A and an exchange of ideas with the audience.

Senior Communication ManagerCristina Arigho je senior manažérkou pre komunikáciu a vedúcou zapojenia zainteresovaných strán a povýšenia v oddelení informácií a komunikácie nadácie Eurofound, do agentúry nastúpila v roku 2012. Predtým strávila takmer 20 rokov v Bruseli, kde pracovala na rôznych pozíciách, mnohé z nich v Európskej komisii, vrátane hovorkyne GR pre zamestnanosť, sociálne záležitosti a začlenenie (2010 – 2012) a GR pre rozpočet (2007 – 2009). Pred nástupom do služby hovorcu Komisie bola tlačovou hovorkyňou GR pre zamestnanosť (2005 – 2007) a autorkou prejavov pre komisára a vtedajšieho generálneho riaditeľa (2003 – 2005). Pred pôsobením v Komisii pracovala pre rozhlasovú a televíznu RTÉ (írska národná televízia) v Bruseli ako asistentka produkcie a výskumníčka a neskôr ako spravodajská producentka. Cristina je absolventkou aplikovaných jazykov na University of Ulster v Coleraine v Severnom Írsku.

Senior research managerHans Dubois je vedúcim výskumným manažérom v oddelení sociálnych politík nadácie Eurofound. Medzi jeho výskumné témy patrí bývanie, nadmerná zadlženosť, zdravotná starostlivosť, dlhodobá starostlivosť, sociálne dávky, dôchodok a kvalita života v miestnej oblasti. Pred nástupom do nadácie Eurofound pôsobil ako odborný asistent na Univerzite Kozminského (Varšava). Doktorát z obchodnej administratívy a manažmentu ukončil na Univerzite Bocconi (Miláno) po tom, čo pracoval ako výskumný pracovník v Európskom observatóriu pre zdravotnícke systémy a politiky (Madrid).
