As part of its #BrusselsBriefings series, Eurofound is hosting an off-the-record session dedicated to its latest research on mental health. The briefing takes place on Tuesday 9 December 2025 from 10:00 to 12:00 CET.

Event background
Eurofound expert Hans Dubois presents recent findings drawing comparative data, exploring how crises such as the Great Recession and COVID-19 have shaped mental-health outcomes, how different risk groups are evolving, and why social and economic conditions remain central drivers of poor mental health.
The briefing also addresses worrying recent trends, including a stalling of the decline in suicide deaths and recent increases especially among youngest and oldest age groups, and the increasing or continued strain on Europe’s mental-health systems regardless of increased capacity. Participants will gain insights into what works, where gaps persist, and how policy can strengthen prevention, inclusion and access to trustworthy, person-centred support.
This off-the-record event gives stakeholders an opportunity to engage directly with Eurofound’s expert on the most recent data and analysis. After the opening and a short presentation, the schedule will include a Q&A and an exchange of ideas with the audience.

Senior Communication ManagerCristina Arigho ist seit 2012 Senior Communications Manager und Leiterin für Stakeholder-Engagement und Beförderungen im Referat Information und Kommunikation bei Eurofound. Zuvor war sie fast 20 Jahre in Brüssel in verschiedenen Funktionen tätig, viele davon bei der Europäischen Kommission, unter anderem als Sprecherin der GD Beschäftigung, Soziales und Integration (2010–2012) und der GD Haushalt (2007–2009). Bevor sie in den Dienst der Sprecherin der Kommission kam, war sie Pressesprecherin in der GD Beschäftigung (2005–2007) und Redenschreiberin für das damalige Kommissionsmitglied und den damaligen Generaldirektor (2003–2005). Vor ihrer Tätigkeit bei der Kommission arbeitete sie für RTÉ Radio and Television (irisches nationales Fernsehen) in Brüssel als Produktionsassistentin und Rechercheurin und später als Nachrichtenproduzentin. Cristina hat einen Abschluss in Angewandten Sprachen von der University of Ulster in Coleraine, Nordirland.

Senior research managerHans Dubois ist leitender Forschungsmanager im Referat Sozialpolitik bei Eurofound. Zu seinen Forschungsthemen gehören Wohnen, Überschuldung, Gesundheit, Langzeitpflege, Sozialleistungen, Altersvorsorge und Lebensqualität in der Region. Bevor er zu Eurofound kam, war er Assistenzprofessor an der Kozminski-Universität (Warschau). Er promovierte in Betriebswirtschaft und Management an der Universität Bocconi (Mailand), nachdem er als Forschungsbeauftragter am Europäischen Observatorium für Gesundheitssysteme und -politik (Madrid) gearbeitet hatte.
