As part of its #BrusselsBriefings series, Eurofound is hosting an off-the-record session dedicated to its latest research on mental health. The briefing takes place on Tuesday 9 December 2025 from 10:00 to 12:00 CET.

Event background
Eurofound expert Hans Dubois presents recent findings drawing comparative data, exploring how crises such as the Great Recession and COVID-19 have shaped mental-health outcomes, how different risk groups are evolving, and why social and economic conditions remain central drivers of poor mental health.
The briefing also addresses worrying recent trends, including a stalling of the decline in suicide deaths and recent increases especially among youngest and oldest age groups, and the increasing or continued strain on Europe’s mental-health systems regardless of increased capacity. Participants will gain insights into what works, where gaps persist, and how policy can strengthen prevention, inclusion and access to trustworthy, person-centred support.
This off-the-record event gives stakeholders an opportunity to engage directly with Eurofound’s expert on the most recent data and analysis. After the opening and a short presentation, the schedule will include a Q&A and an exchange of ideas with the audience.

Avant de rejoindre le service de porte-parole de la Commission, elle a été attachée de presse à la DG Emploi (2005-2007) et rédactrice de discours pour le Commissaire et le directeur général de l’époque (2003-2005). Avant de rejoindre la Commission, elle a travaillé pour la radio et la télévision RTÉ (télévision nationale irlandaise) à Bruxelles en tant qu’assistante de production et recherchiste, puis en tant que productrice d’informations. Cristina est diplômée en langues appliquées de l’Université d’Ulster à Coleraine, en Irlande du Nord.

Hans Dubois
Senior research managerHans Dubois est directeur de recherche principal au sein de l’unité Politiques sociales d’Eurofound. Ses sujets de recherche comprennent le logement, le surendettement, les soins de santé, les soins de longue durée, les prestations sociales, la retraite et la qualité de vie sur le territoire. Avant de rejoindre Eurofound, il était professeur assistant à l’Université Kozminski (Varsovie). Il a obtenu un doctorat en administration et gestion des affaires à l’Université Bocconi (Milan), après avoir travaillé comme chargé de recherche à l’Observatoire européen des systèmes et des politiques de santé (Madrid).
