Sara Riso
Chuaigh Sara Riso isteach in Eurofound in 2006 agus faoi láthair tá sí ina bainisteoir taighde sinsearach san aonad Saol Oibre. Tá sí ag gabháil do thionscadail taighde a dhíríonn ar dhigitiú agus ar dhálaí oibre. Sula ndeachaigh sí isteach in Eurofound, bhainistigh Sara tionscadail taighde do chumainn agus líonraí móra Eorpacha atá lonnaithe sa Bhruiséil. Tá a cúlra acadúil i síceolaíocht, cumarsáid agus teangacha. Is é an príomhspéis atá aici ná strusóirí nua san ionad oibre a iniúchadh a eascraíonn as digitiú méadaithe na hoibre, cleachtais eagraíochtúla atá ag teacht chun cinn, agus straitéisí bainistíochta athraithe chun aghaidh a thabhairt ar na dúshláin a bhaineann le digitiú i dtimpeallachtaí oibre nua-aimseartha.

Braitheann cé a bhaineann leas as AI ar an gcaoi a rialaítear é
Ní sheachadann dul chun cinn teicneolaíochta rathúnas comhroinnte go huathoibríoch. De réir mar a athraíonn AI ár ngeilleagair agus ár sochaí, cuideoidh na hinstitiúidí a thógann muid inniu le cinneadh a dhéanamh an roinntear a ghnóthachain go forleathan.

Conas is féidir linn dul i ngleic go héifeachtach leis an gcibearbhulaíocht ag an obair?
Le deich mbliana anuas, d'athraigh teicneolaíochtaí faisnéise agus cumarsáide an bealach a n-oibríonn fostaithe agus a dhéanann cumarsáid lena chéile. Cé go bhfuil go leor buntáistí ag baint le digitiú na hoibre, tá rochtain fhorleathan ar ghléasanna digiteacha sa saol oibre tar éis talamh torthúil a sholáthar do chineálacha nua iompraíochtaí frithshóisialta a theacht chun cinn, lena n-áirítear cibearbhulaíocht san ionad oibre. San eipeasóid seo de Eurofound Talks, labhraíonn Mary McCaughey le Sara Riso, Bainisteoir Sinsearach Taighde Eurofound, faoi cad is cibearbhulaíocht ann, cé chomh forleathan is atá ceist na cibearbhulaíochta ag an obair, agus an bhfuil dóthain reachtaíochta agus rialacha san ionad oibre ann chun aghaidh a thabhairt uirthi go héifeachtach. Pléann siad an chaoi ar tháinig bulaíocht agus cibearbhulaíocht chun cinn mar shaincheisteanna suntasacha i ndíospóireachtaí beartais náisiúnta, go príomha mar fhadhbanna a théann i bhfeidhm ar dhaoine óga seachas mar fheiniméan níos ginearálta san ionad oibre agus díobhálach d'fholláine na n-oibrithe. Cibé acu ar líne nó duine le duine – is cosúil go bhfuil bulaíocht ag an obair níos forleithne ná mar a admhaítear go coitianta.

COVID-19: Fast-forward to a new era of employee surveillance
With remote working becoming the new normal for many workers, it is surely the case that many employers are anxious to ensure that their employees are putting in full working days. Companies are likely to be investing in and deploying digital technologies for tracking employee performance much more than before the pandemic. The pervasiveness of new digital technologies – whether for working remotely or in the workplace – has raised a host of new issues and concerns around privacy and data protection as well as work organisation, control and autonomy. When it comes to tracking what employees are doing, there is a balance to be struck between the legitimate business interests of the employer and employees’ right to privacy.

Technology is our ally against the Coronavirus
Fear has been mounting in the debate around new technologies and the implications for the future of work. But the Coronavirus outbreak is unveiling some real positives of technological advances. Digital communication tools are supporting and enhancing working from home, while innovative companies are leveraging more nascent technologies – such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and 3D printing – to deal with the frontline challenges of the crisis.

Restructuring: Do unions still matter?
Trade unions in many EU Member States face the issue of declining membership. This is a fundamental challenge for organised labour, but it is premature to speak about the redundancy unions: when it comes to important decisions affecting the workplace, restructuring being one, trade unions remain a powerful mechanism of employee voice. Latest data from Eurofound’s European Working Conditions Survey (EWCS) confirms that the presence of a trade union in the workplace is associated with greater employee voice and involvement in decision-making on restructuring.

Restructuring: We need to make sure those that stay behind are not forgotten
Company restructuring may hit the headlines less in good times, but it remains a central experience in the working life of many. According to the most recent European Working Conditions Survey (EWCS) data, just under one in three (30%) employees in the EU reported that restructuring had taken place at their workplace in the preceding three years. A similar proportion reported working in downsized workplaces. Large scale restructuring involving job loss is usually well-documented, and there is rightly a focus on what options there are for those who have lost their jobs. But what impact does all this have on those that are left behind?

Avoiding the quick fix approach to solving youth unemployment
A key priority for EU policy makers is to combat high levels of youth unemployment. Supporting young people to start a new business is increasingly regarded as a way to achieve this goal. And yet the understanding of what drives the success and failure of youth entrepreneurship policies remains incomplete. In a rush to deliver ‘quick fixes’ to the problem of youth unemployment, governments are falling short of devising well-coordinated policy interventions firmly grounded in evidence that could, in the longer term, be more effective and save public money.
