V 10 letih od leta 2014 do leta 2024 se je število delavcev socialnih storitev v EU povečalo z 8 milijonov na 10 milijonov. Zdaj predstavljajo 5 % celotne delovne sile EU. Hkrati se sektor sooča s pomanjkanjem delovne sile, zanj pa so še vedno značilne nizke plače – približno 20 % nižje od povprečne plače v gospodarstvih držav članic kot celote.
