Event background

Reaching out to the national level

This initiative took place in the context of Eurofound’s ongoing efforts to reach out to the national level and ensure widespread dissemination and dialogue with respect to its research findings.

Job quality and its improvement is an important policy concern, as quality jobs are crucial for higher labour force participation, higher well-being and increased economic performance. Job quality is also a key component in making work sustainable and enabling workers to remain motivated to remain in work for longer.

Particular attention was paid to the impact of job quality on labour shortages and measures to increase the attractiveness of specific sectors and occupations, as well as poor job quality among several sectors and professions deemed essential such as the health sector, transport, agriculture, commerce and hospitality. New research on the job quality of older workers, the factors encouraging them to stay in the labour market and measures taken to achieve this goal were also presented.

Speakers

Eurofound Deputy Director Maria Jepsen opened the event and contextualised the topic within Eurofound’s work programme, followed by short presentations from our experts Barbara Gerstenberger, Head of Unit, Working Life, and Franz Eiffe, Research Manager. Participants joined the discussion with Mary McCaughey, Head of Unit, Information and Communication moderating the event.

This event took place in collaboration with Eurofound’s Belgian Board Members and with its correspondent in Belgium.
