Reaching out to the national level
This initiative took place in the context of Eurofound’s ongoing efforts to reach out to the national level and ensure widespread dissemination and dialogue with respect to its research findings.
Housing remains a serious challenge across the EU. Eurofound’s published a report on matters of great concern across the EU. The associated problems affect people’s health and well-being, embody unequal living conditions and opportunities, and result in healthcare costs, reduced productivity and environmental damage. Private tenants have faced particularly large housing cost increases, and owners with mortgages are vulnerable to interest rate increases. Moreover, the current cost-of-living crisis affects people in all tenancies. Social housing and rent subsidies support many, but capacity differs across and within countries, and these measures exclude certain groups in vulnerable situations and fail to reach everyone who is entitled to them.
This Virtual Visit aimed to address housing problems and possible solutions as well as lessons that can be learned from other countries.
Speakers
Eurofound Executive Director Ivailo Kalfin opened the event, Maria Jepsen, Deputy Director contextualised the topic within Eurofound’s work programme, followed by short presentations from our experts Massimiliano Mascherini, Head of Unit, Social Policies and Hans Dubois, Senior Research Manager. Participants joined the discussion with Mary McCaughey, Head of Unit, Information and Communication moderating the event.
This event took place in collaboration with Eurofound’s Croatian Board Members and with its correspondent in Croatia.
